Supervision of works

Every technical project requires the presence of the Supervising Engineer so that it is implemented according to the plans of the technical studies. The Supervising Engineer is the representative of the main project in order to avoid errors, failures, poor workmanship, delays and everything that can contribute to the implementation of a problematic Technical Project.

The appointment of a supervising engineer is mandatory:

The supervising engineer is the person who is mandatorily appointed by the project owner to supervise the implementation of the study and the execution of a technical project, or part of this project. Usually, the supervising engineer and the engineer who undertakes the study and issuing the building permit are the same, however, this is not mandatory - the owner can appoint a different engineer for the supervision.

The duties and responsibility of the supervising engineer start from the commencement of the work and end when the work is ready for use.

Duties of Supervising Engineer:

  • the control of the construction for the correct implementation of the project in accordance with the approved plans of the building permit, i.e. to make sure of the correct application of the study, compliance with the provisions of the relevant permit and the correct application of all construction elements resulting from the study of project,
  • the implementation of the safety measures of the project and the workers in accordance with the written provisions, the approved Safety and Health Plan (SHA) of the project and the approved Safety and Health File (SHA) of the project,
  • if there is an obligation, the observance and updating of the safety measures calendar with its observations, instructions and suggestions to the owner and contractors as regards the safety and health measures of the project and the workers,
  • the compilation of the Building Identity file in accordance with article 4 of Law 3843/2010,
  • the notification of the Y.IOM (building service) for the inspection of the construction by a Construction Inspector, at the stages defined by the license and his presence during the inspection,
  • the confirmation of the soil data of the project study for the foundation and if deemed necessary, the requirement for the owner to commission experts to carry out a soil engineering survey,
  • the requirement of laboratory checks of the quality of the works, if deemed necessary.
